A Glued-Laminated Timber Structure for the Granby Public Market

In 2020 the town of Granby acquired a distinctive architectural structure to house its public market, showcase local products, and welcome residents and visitors. The permanent wood structure is home to the public market and also acts as a major venue for municipal and community events in Granby. The use of spruce-pine glulam, a local product, is a perfect fit for the structure’s purpose of showcasing local products and retailers for several months of the year.

The timber structure covers an area of 557.4 m2 (6,000 ft2). The frame is composed of vertical and diagonal columns that support impressive curved glulam beams. Light can enter through the roof via a skylight. The Granby Public Market project was nominated for the Prix d’excellence Cecobois 2021 in the outdoor category.
